3 Reasons Dak Prescott Will Be Fine Without a No. 1 Receiver

The Dallas Cowboys are without a clear number one wide receiver this year following the departure of the aging and declining Dez Bryant, who had filled that role for eight straight seasons. Here are three reasons why quarterback Dak Prescott will be perfectly fine with that lack of a no. 1.

3. New Acquisitions

The electric Tavon Austin is a new acquisition for the Cowboys and he will certainly be a weapon that they put to use. Dak Prescott has already expressed his admiration for the speedster, and Austin has already proven that he is the fastest player on the team . Meanwhile former Jags receiver Allen Hurns, signed to a 2-year $12 million contract, has been making waves as the clear go-to wideout . Whether that is true or not remains to be seen, but Hurns will certainly be a key weapon for Dallas.

2. Ezekiel Elliott

Zeke only played 10 games last year, but his production barely slipped. He still put up nearly 100 yards a game, had nine total touchdowns, and was a key target both as a runner and as a receiver. Elliott will relieve a lot of the pressure on Prescott by giving him a consistent running game, keeping defenses off balance, and providing a solid checkdown receiver when blocking falls apart.

1. Cole Beasley

This guy never gets enough credit. Beasley had a bit of a downer season last year, recording only 36 catches for 314 yards. The year before that, however, Beasley had 75 receptions for 833 yards. Beasley is entering his seventh season, and he has proved that he can be a steady force for Dallas. With more opportunities following Bryant’s departure, expect Beasley to be closer to his 2016 form than to that of last year.
