Usually, training camp should have fans thrilled for the start of the regular season. However, multiple injuries have already decimated the mood in Wisconsin, as the Packers have already lost two key defensive players today.

Earlier in practice, Kentrell Brice was carted off the field, as the third-year safety suffered a leg injury. If that wasn’t terrible enough, the Packers were dealt a heart-stopping blow later on in camp, as standout linebacker Jake Ryan went down on the field with a knee injury. Unfortunately for Green Bay, the early signs don’t sound very positive.

Ryan was one of the few bright spots on their defense in 2017, finishing the year with 50 tackles, one forced fumble, and one sack. While he did get up on his own before being carted off, he was hardly the first Packers defensive cog to get lit up Monday. Safety Kentrell Brice was carted off as well earlier in the afternoon.

Ryan’s absence would be the most impactful long-term, of course; his versatility and athleticism adds another dimension to their defense, which desperately needs playmakers. Regardless of how this injury develops, losing Ryan for any period of time is a devastating loss for this team.

After all, they already had their best defensive tackle in Mike Daniels leave practice with leg discomfort.

Considering that Ryan was carted off the field, Packers fans might want to have their fingers crossed.

We’ve seen Aaron Rodgers carry the Packers in the past, but he’ll need help from his defense to make another playoff push.

Hopefully, Jake Ryan’s injury isn’t too severe and the talented linebacker can help contribute this season.
