Patriots’ Win Over Texans Proves Offseason Drama Meant Absolutely Nothing

Of course it didn’t. It was never going to mean anything. No behind-the-scenes melodrama — real or imagined — could possibly take down these New England Patriots.

The Pats franchise is one of the most well-oiled machines in sports over the course of the 21st century. And their sheer stability showed once again in a hard fought 27-20 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday in Week 1.

There were rumors that all-timer QB Tom Brady was butting heads with mastermind coach Bill Belichick and even owner Bob Kraft. But despite the intrigue and innuendo, everything worked out on Sunday, as Brady threw for 277 yards and three touchdowns. Belichick led his team to another win. And controversial trainer Alex Guerrero still had a job.

Fun-loving tight end Rob Gronkowski was reportedly mulling retirement as the team was looking at possibly trading him. Gronk had 123 receiving yards with a touchdown on Sunday. Even though Brady threw a pick and Gronk fumbled, there is no stopping this Pats team.

Again.

Julian Edelman, a featured receiver on last year’s team, was suspended for the first four weeks of the season. Right on cue, new acquisition Phillip Dorsett pulled in seven catches for 66 yards and a touchdown.

Everything the Pats touch turns into gold, and no drama in the offseason is stopping this train.
